We are delighted to announce that Paweł Kaczmarek, tax adviser at Grant Thornton, has claimed the top spot in the “Excise Duty” category in the 15th edition of the prestigious ranking of Tax Advisory Firms and Tax Advisers compiled by Poland’s largest business daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
Paweł Kaczmarek has extensive experience in excise duty and customs law, notably having worked for nearly twenty years in customs administration. He has represented taxpayers before courts and delivered projects worth millions in tax value.
Paweł’s accomplishments include winning a landmark ruling on the consumption of goods exempt from excise duty. The decision significantly reduced the scope of excise-related obligations (including those related to control and record keeping) and, consequently, the taxpayer was able to make measurable savings in their operations related to excise goods. Paweł also won a case before the Polish Supreme Administrative Court involving an enterprise which went bankrupt due to – as the court decided – being unlawfully deprived of the right to operate a tax warehouse. With this judgment in hand, the taxpayer has grounds to seek compensation from the State Treasury.
Grant Thornton, too, was recognised in the 15th edition, keeping its strong fifth rank among the biggest tax advisory firms in Poland in the “Large Firms” category.
